この度、中野にある『モノモノ』にて開かれる“木考会”の同窓会的イベント、に参加します。私にとって若いころ共に考え行動したこの会がいかに大事なものだったのか、今回参加にあたってのコメントを転載します(*一部後段にて補足)。まだまだ言い尽くせぬものがありますがそれはまた25日にお話ししたいと思います。 English follows. ※イベントの詳細はこちらより

『木考会と私』
代々続く木工家の家庭*1に生まれ、母方の祖父は是眞派の漆芸家*2という環境で育ち、小さい頃の遊び場はもっぱら父*3の仕事場であった。その結果自然と木工家の道を歩き出した。
しかし、父のもとで同じ伝統工芸展で活動することに何か足りないものを感じていたことも事実である。そんな時、体に障害のある人々のための家具・道具作りをしていた“でく工房”を知った。その直後、仕事を始めて数年の頃、父を亡くす。すでに日本工芸会の正会員にはなっており、小さい頃の記憶を水先案内人として、木工の実際の制作に困ることはなかった。ただこのまま「好きだ」というだけで木工を仕事としていくことは潔しとしない、との思いは強くなった。自分が生きることと同義のこととして、取り組む仕事の社会での位置づけがほしかった。単に若さの故もあるが、あの時代は若者にそういうことを考えさせる雰囲気があった。その疑問を抱えての木考会への参加である。
同じ木工と言っても、いろいろな取り組み方があり、特に“でく工房”の「問題解決としてのもの作り」とのスタンスは、私にとってとても刺激的であった。以来、作るだけではなくその意味を考え続けてきた。その成果が作ってきた作品たちであり一昨年上梓した著書である。
そして常にその思考の原点は、でく工房をはじめとした木考会での出会いである。
-"Mokkokai" and me-
Born in a family with old tradition of woodworking*1, and raised up with Grandfather*2 on my mother's who is Japanese lacquer artist from master Shibata Zeshin's school, I played in father's studio in my childhood. Eventually, I started career as a Japanese fine woodworker.
However, it was also the fact that I found myself not satisfied with just working in father's studio and exhibit works in exhibition also same as father's. At that time, I happened to know "Deku-kobo" woodworking studio which was building furniture and tools for disabled people, and as a chance for it, I decided to join "Mokkokai" meeting.
Soon after that, addition to it, my father passed away. Having been already accepted as full member of Japan Art Crafts Association and based on young days' memory, there was no trouble in actual work days. But on the other hand, I fount my simple motivation toward woodworking just from my love for it against my conscience. As the same meaning as my life itself, I was hunger for knowing where my work I was tackling was in this society, and my struggling for which let me join "Mokkokai" meeting.
One simple word "Mokko", woodworking in English, contains various ways of tackling it; especially the stance of "Deku-kobo" woodworking studio - craft as the solution for problems - was so inspiring to me. Since that meeting, I have been thinking about not only what I make but also what meaning it has, which has made fruit of my works and books published two years ago.
All that thinking always comes from "Mokkokai" meeting.
