The interior of this work possesses the space to store things, so it may be described as a box, but this being said, function was not my main concern in creating it, rather it can be more accurately described as a three-dimensional object possessing the function of a box.

This work embodies the image of a boat being rowed out over a lake in search of peace and tranquility on moonlit night. The inlay of the moon on the interior is visible through the central lattice section. Moonlight symbolizes tranquility while the waxing and waning of the moon also represents rebirth.  The exterior is made of sycamore maple finished in black urushi lacquer, the base is of ziricote and the orange-colored wood of the interior is lace wood.

This work belongs to the Crafts Gallery of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
